How to activate and install Autodesk ReCap Pro

The ReCap Pro license purchased on Mr Key Shop is linked to the Autodesk account associated with the purchase email. The software is downloaded directly from the Autodesk portal.

Step 1. License receipt and activation 

The license is automatically assigned to the Autodesk account linked to the email entered at the time of purchase on Mr Key Shop. If you do not yet have an Autodesk account, create a free one on autodesk.com using the same email used for the order. The license will be available with fast activation within a few minutes (up to 18 hours during peak times on weekdays, up to 48 hours on weekends).

Step 2. Software download 

Sign in to autodesk.com with your account. Go to Products and Services or Product Management: ReCap Pro will be listed among your active products. Select Download and start the download. The current version and the three most recent previous versions are available. For older versions, you can contact Autodesk support.

Step 3. Installation 

Run the downloaded file and follow the guided procedure. At first launch, ReCap Pro requires you to sign in to your Autodesk account to verify the active subscription. Log in with the credentials of the account on which the license was activated.

Step 4. ReCap Photo setup 

ReCap Photo is included in the ReCap Pro subscription. It is activated from the same Autodesk account. For ReCap Photo cloud services (photogrammetry processing and cloud scan-to-mesh), Autodesk Flex tokens are required in addition to the subscription. The local Scan-to-Mesh feature introduced in ReCap Pro 2026 does not require additional tokens.

• What is Autodesk ReCap Pro? 

Autodesk ReCap Pro is Autodesk’s reality capture software for managing and converting 3D laser scans and photogrammetry into point clouds and mesh models. It enables the creation of accurate digital representations of buildings, infrastructure and existing sites for Scan-to-BIM workflows, as-built surveys and documentation of real-world conditions in architecture, civil engineering and construction.

• What is the difference between ReCap Pro and ReCap Standard?

• What is ReCap Photo and how does it differ from ReCap Pro? 

ReCap Photo is the photogrammetry module included in the ReCap Pro subscription. It converts photographic sequences, captured via drone or ground camera, into structured geolocated meshes, point clouds and orthophotos through cloud processing. ReCap Pro instead manages point clouds from laser scanners. The two tools integrate within the same workflow: laser scanning for metric accuracy, photogrammetry for visual coverage and texturing.

• Does ReCap Pro work on Mac? 

No. Autodesk ReCap Pro is available exclusively for Windows 10 and 11 64-bit. There is no macOS version.

• What is the Scan-to-Mesh feature introduced in ReCap Pro 2026? 

Scan-to-Mesh is the feature that converts point clouds into segmented mesh models locally, without requiring cloud upload or the use of Flex tokens. It allows classification, editing and export of mesh models through the integrated mesh editor, and their import into Revit as native families via the dedicated plug-in.

• Does ReCap Pro integrate with Revit? 

Yes. In ReCap Pro 2026 a dedicated Revit plug-in was introduced that allows adding large mesh objects directly into Revit projects as native families, eliminating the need for manual modeling. Point clouds processed in ReCap Pro can be imported into Revit as .rcp files for Scan-to-BIM workflows.

• Which laser scanners are compatible with ReCap Pro? 

ReCap Pro supports the main laser scanning formats: .e57, .las, .fls, .fws, .isproj, .pts, .xyz, .rcs. This ensures compatibility with most terrestrial and mobile scanners on the market, including Leica, FARO, Trimble, Matterport and Riegl models.

• How many installations are allowed with a ReCap Pro subscription? 

The ReCap Pro subscription allows installation on up to 3 computers. Only the specified user can use the software on one device at a time.

• Is the Educational version identical to the Commercial version in terms of features? 

Yes. The Educational version includes all ReCap Pro features, identical to the Commercial version. It has no functional limitations, watermarks or references to the Educational version in output files. The only difference concerns the permitted use: personal and educational, not paid professional use.

• When should you NOT choose ReCap Pro Educational? 

The Educational version is not suitable for paid professional use, billable design work, commissioned surveys or professional studio activities. In these cases, the Commercial version is required. If you only need to view point clouds without processing them, the free ReCap Standard version may be sufficient. If you mainly work on Mac, ReCap Pro is not available for that platform.

• How does ReCap Pro compare with other reality capture software?

ReCap Pro is the most advantageous choice for those already working with Autodesk software: native integration with Revit, AutoCAD and Autodesk Construction Cloud eliminates conversions and intermediate steps that other point cloud processing software would require. Leica Cyclone and FARO Scene offer more advanced processing features on their respective proprietary scanners, but with more limited BIM integration.
