Receiving your Windows Server 2025 RDS User CAL licence: all via email

The Windows Server 2025 RDS User CAL does not require any software to be downloaded onto the end-user’s device: what you receive from Mr Key Shop is a valid licence code, delivered directly to your email inbox along with the operating instructions. This is a named access licence, linked to the user’s identity rather than the device, designed for Windows Server 2025 environments – Microsoft’s latest platform with native support for hybrid infrastructures, Azure Arc and advanced security features. After purchase, you’ll receive everything you need: the licence code, documentation and guidance to get started straight away.

Windows Server 2025 RDS User CAL configuration: the path on the server

The installation of the User CAL for Windows Server 2025 takes place entirely on the server side, within the centralised management environment of Remote Desktop Services Licence Management. From the server’s administrator account, go to Server Manager → Tools → Remote Desktop Services Licence Management. Check that the licence server is enabled and configured in ‘Per User’ mode, in line with the type of CAL purchased. Proceed with the licence addition wizard, selecting the appropriate licence programme and the relevant operating system, Windows Server 2025. The entire procedure is managed by the IT staff responsible for the server infrastructure: no action is required on end-users’ machines.

Activation and assignment of Windows Server 2025 RDS User CAL: named management

The User CAL is activated using the code received, which is entered in the Remote Desktop Services Licence Management wizard. Once the licence pool has been activated, the RDS server automatically assigns a named CAL to the first user who establishes a valid remote session. Unlike the Device CAL, the User CAL follows the user: they can access the system from any device – PC, thin client, tablet or via web access – without the licence being reallocated or consumed for each device. The assignment remains named until manually reassigned by the administrator. For environments with mobile users, BYOD or multi-device access, the User CAL is the most structurally efficient choice on Windows Server 2025.
