Frequently Asked Questions from Customers

Windows Server 2019 ended Mainstream Support on 9 January 2024: since that date, it no longer receives new features or non-security fixes. It is currently still in Extended Support until 9 January 2029, during which time Microsoft only releases critical security updates.

After 9 January 2029, Windows Server 2019 will no longer receive any official updates, increasing the risk of vulnerabilities, compliance issues and instability in the long term. For this reason, it is advisable to plan ahead for migration to more recent versions, such as Windows Server 2022 or Windows Server 2025, in order to maintain a secure, supported environment that is aligned with current standards.

The requirements are very similar to Windows Server 2022:

  • CPU: 1.4 GHz, 64-bit (x64).
  • RAM: 512 MB for Server Core, 2 GB for Desktop Experience
  • Disk space: minimum 32 GB, recommended 100–120 GB+ and SSD for production environments.
  • Network: Gigabit Ethernet (1 Gbps) card.

In production, the following is strongly recommended:

  • more RAM,
  • more disk space,
  • fast storage (SSD or RAID), especially if you use roles such as Hyper-V, File Server, Active Directory, SQL, etc.

Reliable sources are:

  • Microsoft Evaluation Centre: offers the ISO trial (180 days) of Windows Server 2019.
  • Volume Licensing Service Centre / Microsoft 365 Admin Centre: for companies with volume licence agreements.
  • Visual Studio Subscription (MSDN): available to those with a developer/test subscription.

Always avoid unofficial sites, ‘lite’ or modified ISOs, torrents and ‘too cheap’ keys: they are often non-compliant and can expose you to malware or activation problems.

With Mr Key Shop, you purchase the original Windows Server 2019 licence, but the operating system is always downloaded from Microsoft servers. We guide you through the download, installation and activation process.

  • Download the official ISO image
  • Prepare the installation media: Create a bootable USB stick (at least 8 GB) with a tool like Rufus.
  • Configure the server to boot from USB/DVD: Enter the BIOS/UEFI and set the USB stick as the first boot device.
  • Proceed with the setup
  1. Select your language, date/time format, and keyboard layout.
  2. Choose the edition (e.g., Standard or Datacenter).
  3. Choose the installation: Server Core (plus Datacenter). Secure and lightweight) or Server with Desktop Experience (graphical interface).
  4. For a new installation, select “Custom: Install Microsoft Server Operating System only (advanced)” and specify the partition.
  • Set administrator: At first boot, you will be asked to set a strong password for Administrator.
  • Update your system immediately: Use Windows Update to install all available security patches.
