Frequently Asked Questions from Customers

Before installing, make sure your server meets at least these requirements:

  • CPU: 1.4 GHz, 64-bit (x64 compatible).
  • RAM: 512 MB for Server Core, 2 GB for Desktop Experience (with GUI).
  • Disk space: minimum 32 GB - recommended 120 GB+ and SSD in production environments.
  • Network: Gigabit Ethernet (1 Gbps) card.

For real use (Hyper-V, AD roles, file servers, etc.), more RAM, a more powerful CPU, and fast storage are recommended.

To install Windows Server 2022, Microsoft specifies minimum system requirements, which are sufficient only for installation and very light testing environments. In summary:

  • CPU: 64-bit processor with at least 1.4 GHz
  • RAM: minimum 512 MB for Server Core installation - minimum 2 GB for Server with Desktop Experience (GUI)
  • Disk space: at least 32 GB (in practice, it is best to start with a 100–120 GB SSD or larger)
  • Network: Gigabit Ethernet card (1 Gbps)
  • Display: minimum resolution 1024 x 768 (required for some GUI functions)

Keep in mind that these are minimum ‘survival’ values: in reality, especially if you use the server for virtualisation (Hyper-V), file servers, databases, business applications or multiple roles, you will need to provide more RAM, a more powerful CPU and a fast SSD drive to avoid slowdowns and bottlenecks. If you are planning an upgrade or a new server with Windows Server 2022, you can purchase the original ESD digital licence from Mr Key Shop, which includes:

  • Immediate download of the software
  • Activation key sent by email
  • Free technical support (also to check that your hardware meets the requirements)

This allows you to evaluate the ideal combination of edition (Standard/Datacenter) and hardware configuration before going into production.

Use only official sources:

  • Microsoft Evaluation Centre: download the 180-day trial ISO of Windows Server 2022.
  • Volume Licensing Service Centre / Microsoft 365 Admin Centre: For companies with active volume licences.
  • Visual Studio Subscription (MSDN): If you have a development/testing subscription, you can download the ISO from there.

Avoid torrents, modified ISOs, or unofficial sites: they may contain malware or tampered images.

At Mr Key Shop, after purchasing the original Windows Server 2022 licence, you will receive a secure link to download the ISO file.
